Pillows 1 with Liz Woolf, Design Works Studio: Sioux Falls
Have you ever walked away from a class feeling like an expert? You will when we are finished with Pillows 1! We will cover everything from types of pillow inserts, the different types of finished pillows, how to properly cut fabric, sewing with a variety of trims, finishing off trims, and how to close a pillow. We’ll even cover stylish custom options like shirred welt and flat welt! Adding those skills can be a lucrative addition to any fabricating or upholstery business.
About the instructor . . .
Liz Woolf has been sewing for over 40 years and for over 16 of those years she has run her own fabricating business. She has a degree in painting and weaving, built weaving looms, ran a fabric store, designed fabric, trained designers on how to use fabric design software and worked at Levi Strauss and Company as the brands CAD manager. Through all of those careers it is sewing/making that makes her the happiest!

Cushions are bread and butter to the upholstery world – but that doesn’t make them easy. In this 12 hour workshop, we’ll break down the whole process step by step for sewing a basic cushion with boxing, welting and a zipper. Fee includes basic sewing supplies, handouts, instruction, and access to our industrial sewing machines (we have two sewing machines and have determined that this class runs best with 3 people – expect to do a bit of sharing with your classmates!)
Foam and fabric may be purchased through the shop at a student discount if needed.
Most students complete 2 cushions within the 12 hours.
