Program Overview

Not sure WHERE to start? Start here. Weekend Warriors is the ideal place to get your feet wet and discover what upholstery is all about. Workshops are 12 hours total (6 hours Saturday and Sunday) which is perfect for making a few cushions, reupholstering your kitchen chairs, or tackling a simple side chair.

Focus is on exploration and creativity, so all levels are welcome. Students may wish to bring some basic tools of their own, but all necessary professional quality equipment is provided. Foam is available for purchase during class if your project requires it.
Workshop is truly OPEN so students may elect to bring in any in-process project they are currently working on to receive instructor support and access to tools and materials, but new students are especially encouraged to be especially mindful of recommendations.

Workshop Objectives

  • Increase familiarity with basic professional upholstery skills and processes
  • Learn about and sample professional quality tools and supplies
  • Connect with like-minded students in a positive learning environment
  • Leave with one of a kind functional art
  • Rescue a piece of furniture from landfill

Project Recommendations

Cushions, dining chairs, ottomans, side chairs. Returning students may elect to bring more complex projects and complete challenging portions with instructor support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sorry, no – Due to our instructor’s work schedules, we are unable to accommodate requests for drop-in hours. We do, however, make every effort to help students come prepared, and have created a number of free resources to help you finish at home. We also offer Virtual Instructor Support to help students who need individualized guidance but maybe not an entire workshop.

Registration is per student – If you elect to share a project, our instructors will do their best to keep you both working by dividing tasks between you (cutting, sewing, upholstery) but unfortunately we cannot waive registration for the second participant.

We’d still encourage you to keep it simple, especially if you are after good results. Most students leave their first workshop feeling pretty overwhelmed with new information. We want you to feel challenged, but also to have fun and retain what you learn.

Additional Information

12 hours goes faster than you’d expect. Incomplete projects MUST leave at the end of the weekend. FLC instructors are always happy to recommend resources for finishing at home, or you are welcome to sign up for additional workshops if you prefer to finish in our facility.

If you are not sure whether your project is appropriate, please email a photo to info@thefunkylittlechair.com before registering and a team member can advise you. Weekend Warriors is an excellent workshop for first year students to repeat several times – talk to you instructor about what types of projects might help you move forward throughout the year.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation requests received 4 weeks prior to class will be given a full refund, minus transaction fees. After that date, refunds will only be granted if FLC is able to fill the spot. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SCHEDULE CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING!!!! WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON LOW INSTRUCTOR AND EQUIPMENT RATIOS, BUT AS A RESULT, LATE CANCELLATIONS ARE DIFFICULT TO ACCOMMODATE. In the event that FLC cancels due to weather (or global pandemic) full refunds will be granted. Out of state students should note that winter flights can be unpredictable, particularly from January-March. We recommend that you allow time to arrive early, or register for a fall/spring alternative.
